We are currently seeking sharp, skilled and motivated ASSISTANT CONTROLLER SAFETY SPECIALIST to assist the Controller in directing the accounting functions including the development and maintenance of accounting policies, principles, practices and procedures. With a focus on internal controls, construction job costing/revenue recognition, payroll, general ledger, and accounts payable/accounts receivable. Manage a team of four accounting personnel and two payroll administrators, providing support, and guidance while focusing on retention and career development.

Maintain accounting guidelines and responsible for updating of policies and procedures and best practices
Oversee and manage all aspects of Accounts Payable
Ensure compliance of state and local sales/use tax laws
Collaborate with vendors to improve efficiencies (i.e. electronic invoicing) and to take advantage of discounts

Job Cost/Work Order
Manages OCIP project set up and monthly compliance
Direct/perform/assist with the month end closing process
Manage and guarantee weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes for 700+ employees is consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
Manage regular preparation of tax filings, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, disability, nontaxable wages etc.)
Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
Maintain payroll guidelines and responsible for updating of policies and procedures and best practices.
Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, and vacation time in line with project contracts (Davis Bacon, KJIC, etc.).
Partner with HR and benefits in aligning and implementing a more sophisticated payroll, benefits, and HRIS system
Collaborate with the IT Spectrum manager, to test and implement reporting required to enhance the Spectrum module
Oversee accounting calendar and ensures deadlines are met
Responsible for opening/closing of processing dates for all modules
Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
Review general ledger activity monthly to ensure cost is being allocated in a consistent manner
Assist with internal/external audits
Liaison for Encore with Spectrum support team a Dexter Chaney accounting system
Crystal Report Writer
Team with the CAM (Cost Accounting Manager) when operational processes are not aligned or support needed to develop consistency and training

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with 5 years of progressive experience in construction accounting management
CPA strongly preferred
3+ years progressive experience in managing a multi-state payroll department
Work experience with payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels, CPP is a plus
Strong experience in accounting software required, working knowledge of Spectrum software is a plus
