We need an entrepreneurial Property Management Staff Accountant to join the Business Operations practice in our Minneapolis office. As a member of CLA's BizOps practice, you will work directly with entrepreneurs, start-ups, and small/medium business owners and managers to provide customized services to our clients so they can focus on managing and growing their organizations.
In this role, you will be an integral part of our client's team, and will have an opportunity to be directly involved in helping them manage the business and make the critical decisions necessary for long-term success. We do this by providing a variety of accounting, financial and operational services for our clients, including processing transactions, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, financial analysis, and supporting our clients' existing accounting function. Ability to identify client issues concerning generally accepted accounting principles (FASB / SFAS), specifically related to particular industry.
Complete non-complex account reconciliations, such as bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other balance sheet accounts.
Prepare non-complex financial statements and required work papers to support the financial statements.
Process transactions which may include: accounts payable/cash disbursements processing, accounts receivable/cash receipts processing and payroll processing/coordination.
Gains a thorough understanding of the financial operations of industry specific engagements/clients within the property management industry inclusive of companies that receive fee income for management, pass thru holding companies, Commercial Rental Real Estate, Development companies and fund investment companies.
Perform daily, monthly, quarterly and annual deliverables as described below:
Day to day tasks:
Manage Accounting emails & any mail received
Record & deposit any checks received
Request W-9 forms from any new vendors to be paid, scan & attach in QuickBooks
Code property invoices for the week for multiple properties
Enter invoices for the week for 5-10 entities, print summaries of invoices to be paid
Reconcile bank accounts for multiple entities
Prepare funds request with current week's bank balance and invoices to be paid for each entity
Scan, attach, and file A/P and A/R for the week
Review and classify any unclassified transactions on the income statement in the current month
Review any outstanding bills to ensure all payments have been made
Pull and save month-end bank statements
Complete month-end bank reconciliation
Create and send bills to all tenants of properties for their monthly rent and expenses
Create intercompany management fee invoices for properties, pay, and deposit checks
Send out credit card templates to all employees (done twice per month)
Process payroll (twice per month)
Includes tracking and recording any changes to payroll; entering any PTO or unpaid time off; recording journal entries; and processing 401(k) contributions
Pull and save financial statements for entities when prior month has been closed
Reconcile balance sheet accounts for prior month for multiple entities after financials have been saved
Submit Sales & Use Tax returns for one property
Review draw requests for projects
Pay asset management fee for one property
Pay board distributions
Submit Sales & Use Tax returns for 2 properties
Review all vendors for any missing W-9s and request
Pay real estate taxes for multiple properties (twice per year)
Final review of vendors for any missing W-9s, ensure all are obtained by January 15th
At the end of December, pull all prior year files from large filing cabinet and box up to move to storage room downstairs; then move current year files from desk cabinet to large filing cabinet
Create folders for the new year to place in desk cabinet by January 1st
