Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant coordinates and performs confidential, diversified reporting and reconciliation duties as part of the Accounting department team. The Senior Accountant assists in the preparation, analysis and review of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules and provides leadership, guidance and technical expertise in the effective operation of the Museum’s accounting software and processes. The position interacts with other departments of the Museum for fixed asset tracking, accounting and reporting, and monitors cash levels. In addition to preparing assigned journal entries for month-end general ledger close, the Senior Accountant conducts periodic account and bank reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
The position requires five years of experience preferably working with nonprofits. Superior organizational skills and attention to detail are required as is the ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels and across all departments of the organization. Excellent communication skills, team orientation, a solid knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and strong computer skills are essential. Knowledge of Microsoft Office including a strong command of Excel, and a computerized ledger system is required, familiarity with Financial Edge NXT and ADP a plus. Experience with developing and maintaining system interfaces is also a plus. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
