The Controller serves as a leader and full-time administrator within the College’s finance department. S/he will coordinate and direct the financial operations of the College and the Northampton Community College Foundation (“Foundation”) in collaboration with the Vice President of Finance and Operations. Manages assigned functions within Finance including, but not limited to, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and central duplication.
Responsibilities: (1) Manages and provides leadership for the daily operations of assigned finance office functions including, but not limited to, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and central duplication; (2) Oversees the finance, payroll, and accounting portions of the enterprise resource planning (“ERP”) tool utilized by the College and the Foundation. Serves as a key stakeholder and co-leader within Finance with respect to efforts to improve, select, and/or implement ERP solutions; (3) Participates in the preparation of Monthly, Annual, or as needed financial reports for the College and the Foundation. Ensures that such reports are accurate, timely, and relevant, and that the proper controls are in place to maximize accurate reporting. Develops financial policies as appropriate that ensure the proper recording of financial transactions, and minimize opportunities for asset impairment or fraud; (4) Ensures that College and Foundation accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. In conjunction with the VP of Finance and Operations, recommends benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance of divisions and departments; (5) Manages all operational banking relationships for the College and manages Investment Manager relationships for the Foundation; (6) Works with the VP of Finance on managing the college debt levels and may participate in the process for acquiring new long-term debt via Bond issues or Bank loans; (7) Works with the VP of Finance relative to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (“PDE”) and the funding they provide to the college; (8) Prepares the year-end financial statements for the College and the Foundation and is responsible for leading the year-end financial audit in conjunction with external auditors, and in accordance with PDE Agreed upon procedures; (9) Monitors Capital/Fixed Asset additions and depreciation for the College and the Foundation each year; (10) Oversees the insurance and related risk management for the College working with the contracted broker. Evaluates broker relationships as appropriate; (11) Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by management.
Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the Vice President Finance and Operations for the performance of assigned responsibilities. (2) Coordinates work with members of the administrative team assigned to the Business Office. (3) Relates role to college goals and mission attainment. (4) Supervises and provides leadership/support to direct reports including Assistant Controllers, Payroll Manager as well as indirect reports under each of these functional areas.
