POAH Communities, an exciting and highly entrepreneurial organization committed to quality management of affordable rental housing, is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as a Portfolio Accountant. The individual will work from our Kansas City office and will be responsible for the accounting, financial reporting and cash management of a group of properties in the POAH Communities portfolio.
Devote the majority of his/her time in delivering monthly operational and corporate accounting information. This will include, but is not limited to, the preparation and review of:
Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows, all in accordance with GAAP
Account Analysis for individual Balance Sheet accounts and select Income Statement Accounts
Journal Entries, Receipts and Payables in preparation of above statements and subsidiary ledgers
Prepare work product for public auditing firms and work effectively with the auditors to produce high quality information.
Review of Accounts Payable documentation, issuance of checks and reconciliation of bank statements.
Preparation and submission of requests for reimbursement from CapEx reserves.
Assist with the preparation of annual property budgets and meet additional annual goals as determined by the Accounting Manager and the VP of Finance and Accounting.
Provide a high degree of customer service to POAH Communities colleagues and ensure that all of the accounting and related processing work is done with efficiency, timeliness and integrity.
Execute the financial and operational objectives established by the company and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws is maintained.
Seek opportunities to enhance communications and build collaborative relationships with supervisors, peers, subordinates and residents.
Complete other tasks assigned by the Accounting Manager and VP of Finance and Accounting.
Have a minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting and finance, with a B.A. or B.S. degree.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the successful candidate will thrive in a team oriented environment and should:
Exhibit accounting and finance expertise and abilty to think critically.
Familiarity with project finance and rental subsidy programs is preferred, but not required.
Demonstrate direct experience as a Portfolio Accountant in a real estate firm or a firm closely aligned with the work of POAH Communities.
Understand information technology as it relates to accounting and finance in a multifamily housing/real estate environment.
Be proficient in Word, Excel and Adobe or equivalent PDF editing software – with advanced understanding of Excel. Experience with software used by POAH Communities for financial reporting – presently Yardi – would be helpful.
