The Controller reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for managing financial and accounting functions. These include preparing the annual budget, conducting financial analysis, preparing financial statements, developing and implementing effective financial system processes, establishing policies and procedures, and managing all aspects of the finance and accounting department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of the accounting and finance department
Prepare annual budget, track and analyze variances
Prepare, analyze and interpret financial statements for board of directors and executive management
Perform or supervise board accounting functions including per capita, depreciation and general ledger maintenance
Manage financial systems and maintain accurate financial records
Provide financial advise, direction and leadership
Prepare for and assist external auditors with annual audit
Create and present various financial reports
Create financial policies and procedures
Participate in strategic financial planning
Work collaboratively with cross-functional departments on projects as they relate to finance
Establish and maintain internal controls to assure UDWA follows GAAP and DOL regulations
Assure UDWA follows staff union contract as it relates to finance
Supervise, direct and mentor accounting and payroll staff
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
Proficient computer skills including QuickBooks, ADP, Excel & Word
General Ledger accounting and financial statement preparation and analysis
Proficient in GAAP
Knowledge of Department of Labor standards for labor unions strongly preferred
Strong decision and problem-solving skills
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
