POAH Communities, an exciting and highly entrepreneurial organization committed to quality management of affordable rental housing, is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Accounting Manager. This individual will be responsible for the supervision of the day to day accounting, financial reporting and cash management for a portion of the portfolio of properties, as well as direct supervision of a team of Portfolio Accountants. The Accounting Manager will report to the Vice President of Finance & Accounting and work closely with colleagues within POAH and POAH Communities to achieve annual financial and operational goals.
Direct responsibility for day-to-day accounting for properties which may be in various stages of transition, rehabilitation and/or financing.
Supervise a team of 3 – 5 Portfolio Accountants and other support staff.
Review the work product of others within the department and provide constructive feedback, both verbally and in writing.
Work with other Accounting Managers to coordinate monthly financial statements, schedules, annual financial statement audits, and ad hoc projects.
Work with his/her peers to assign property responsibilities and balance the workload within the department
Assist with the preparation of annual property budgets.
Provide a high degree of customer service to POAH Communities colleagues and ensure that all of the accounting and related processing work is done with efficiency, timeliness and integrity.
Execute the financial and operational objectives established by the company and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws is maintained.
Seek opportunities to enhance communications and build collaborative relationships with supervisors, peers, subordinates and residents.
B.A. or B.S. required and an MBA or C.P.A would be a plus in this position.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and finance. Exposure to Real Estate accounting highly preferred.
The successful candidate will thrive in a team oriented environment.
Must be an expert in accounting and GAAP, and have a sound understanding of project finance and rental subsidy programs.
Direct experience as a Senior Portfolio Accountant or Accounting Manager in a real estate firm or a firm closely aligned with the work of POAH Communities.
Understand information technology as it relates to accounting and finance in a multifamily housing/real estate environment.
Be proficient in Word, Excel and Adobe or equivalent PDF editing software – with advanced understanding of Excel. Experience with software used by POAH Communities for financial reporting – presently Yardi – would be helpful.
