Associate Athletic Director for Financial Management
Job Purpose Towson University is accepting applications for an Associate Athletic Director for Financial Management. Under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, serves as the senior financial officer for the Department of Athletics. This position is responsible for all fiscal activities of the NCAA Division I Athletic Department including budget planning, formulation, management, forecasting and resource allocation. The development and oversight of fiscal policies and procedures to ensure all fiscal activities are conducted in compliance with Federal, State, Conference, USM, Institutional and NCAA laws and regulations. Maintains and ensures fiscal integrity including compensation, scholarship, and operating budgets as well as the Athletics' foundation accounts. Creates and maintains policies and procedures related to financial management and business operations. Department wide budget reports including the annual audit, EADA, quarterly and annual fiscal reports. Creates budget projections and forecasting, finding efficiencies and other ways to maximize the Athletics Budget. Promotes an atmosphere of customer service, overseeing team services (travel, officials, housing, dining, equipment) and to be an active member of the athletics team and senior staff.
Financial Planning/Budgeting Responsible for creating, monitoring, and forecasting all of the athletic departments' budgets, including all Division I varsity sport programs and administrative operating budgets composed of compensation, scholarship, travel, equipment and recruiting.
Creates, monitors, and forecasts the athletic departments revenue budget including contractual obligations for game guarantees, sponsorship contracts, ticket and gift revenue, endowment income, and conference allocations, etc. Manage all gift and agency revenue and expenses. Provides financial input for the athletic division's strategic planning process.
Oversees the preparation of regular budget analysis and financial reports to track expenditures against plan and provide projections of future revenues and expenses to facilitate management decision making. Monitors current and projected financial performance to assess fiscal requirements. Directs and approves budget transfers.
Fiscal Policies/Operating/Business Systems/Technology Ensures that all business and financial activities and guidelines are in compliance with Federal, State, Conference, Institutional and NCAA rules and regulations. Maintains and ensures the integrity of the athletics departments' operating budgets and financial plan through the oversight and creation of appropriate financial controls and policies. Ensures that all university procurement policies are followed and all financial information is available for internal and external audits.
Management Trains, develops and retain staff through effective performance appraisals and staff development. Determines priorities and provide direction to direct reports. Communicates issues and trends to University Budget Office Director and Athletic Director. Continuous communication to athletic director and coaches regarding status of budgets. Creates and maintains athletic department policy manual related to financial management and business operations. Serves as a member of the Athletics Senior Staff on the AD Council as well as department and campus committees as necessary.
Team Services Promotes an atmosphere and philosophy of customer service within the business office. Oversees various services to support our 19 sport programs including but not limited to: travel, officials, housing, dining, equipment. Creates and reports financial budgets for NCAA Championship bids. Represents athletics in the command center for football games. Assists as necessary with ticket office operations on game days. Serves as a sport administrator as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of demonstrated accounting/fiscal management experience to include budgeting and financial planning. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to gain knowledge of and adhere to all NCAA, conference and institutional rules governing the conduct of intercollegiate athletics, particularly regarding financial matters. Ability to work with internal departments and clients regarding operational and financial issues. Well-versed in financial systems. Prior supervisory experience. Able to manage people and resources in a collaborative team-based environment. Ability to promote a positive customer service environment.
Higher Education and/or Division I College Athletics experience
PeopleSoft Financial experience
