This position is primarily responsible for managing personnel and compliance related to state & city income tax, sales/use tax, real estate & personal property taxes. This position will also assist with compliance related to payroll taxes, certain information returns and unemployment insurance. Assist in partnerships or trust tax returns as needed.
Preparation of multi state corporate income tax returns and back up work papers as well as research related filing requirements to ensure company is compliant with state tax laws.
Supervision and compliance over state, city and local food and beverage sales and use tax returns.
Research various states tax laws as it applies to sales and use tax in the restaurant and manufacturing industry to ensure the company is in compliance.
Interact with or assist with sales tax audits by compiling and analyzing information prior to audit and identifying potential exposure items or refunds.
Supervise the personal property tax and real estate tax compliance.
Analyze and balance selected general ledger accounts monthly and post accrued tax journal entries.
Supervise or prepare certain city income tax returns.
Assist with compliance of payroll withholding, certain information returns, unemployment insurance and business license returns for states and cities using LT Tax payroll software.
Assist with partnership and trust returns as needed.
Special projects for the Tax Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
B.S. Degree in Accounting required, Masters in Tax or CPA designation is preferred.
Minimum background of 7 years in multi-state tax accounting with a focus on state & city income tax and / or sales & use tax preferred.
Able to read and understand the tax returns and the various states’ tax regulations.
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines during times when the schedule is heavy. Must be able to maintain accuracy and be detailed oriented.
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent tax research skills.
Advanced personal computer and spreadsheet skills required.
Knowledge of Ultra Tax (or similar Wolter Kluwer product) and LT Tax Software system, is a plus.
Knowledge of INFOR Series fixed asset or payroll systems a plus.
Must be self-directed and able to deal with interruptions while completing important project deadlines.
Good organizational skills and reading comprehension.
Must be able to supervise, train and motivate direct reports.
