As an extension of the finance and human resources teams, the Provider Compensation Manager will be responsible for driving the development of provider compensation models, policies, and overseeing the alignment of provider compensation arrangements and payment practices for the providers of St. Charles Medical Group. This position will partner with St. Charles Medical Group executive leadership, the operation teams within each service line, the provider recruiting team, human resources, legal and compliance, and the contracting team to propose, implement and assess the impact of provider compensation models that are created to align with service line and health system goals. The Provider Compensation Manager will create, document and manage compensation policies based on benchmarks and related data which will allow for transparent compensation standards and justification for incoming and existing providers within St. Charles Medical Group. This role will document and ensure fair market value and commercial reasonableness of all provider compensation models. This position will directly manage other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Determine and document fair market value and commercial reasonableness of all provider compensation models. Elevate any potential concerns to St. Charles Medical Group leadership and St. Charles Heath System legal counsel. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all recommendations and final models.
Recommend specific compensation mechanisms for unique circumstances while maintaining alignment with industry benchmarks.
Work with outside consultants to procure a Fair Market Value analysis for any compensation models that are outside of established St. Charles Heath System policy thresholds.
Develop compensation plans for each service line, map all compensation related program changes and ensure compensation model and implementation is transparent to St. Charles Medical Group providers. Recommend course of action after conducting analysis in partnership with legal, compliance, payroll and human resources, as necessary.
Responsible for the development and administration of compensation strategies and plans designed to incentivize performance and align provider compensation with the goals of St. Charles Heath System and St. Charles Medical Group.
Maintain working knowledge of physician compensation related government regulations and collaborate with St. Charles Medical Group leadership and legal team to assure compensation models are developed to be compliant with those rules.
Responsible for verifying that all provider compensation arrangements comply with system policy and government regulation.
Review provider contract language to ensure that compensation related language is clear, feasible to implement and compliant prior to contract signature.
Responsible for overseeing the translation and administration of payment arrangements represented in each provider contract into payment practices that are accurate and reconciled to ensure fair market value and commercial reasonableness. This is done in partnership with payroll and human resources. Support communication with the providers to ensure they are well informed about the compensation elements in their contracts.
Prepare and present all required physician compensation and production data to St. Charles Health System senior executive team per St. Charles Health System policy.
Provide guidance, direction and oversight for the provider compensation analyst role(s) to ensure timely, accurate and consistent contract analysis, reconciliation and reporting of provider compensation.
Identify industry trends in provider compensation models. Incorporate industry standards and best practices to recommend compensation solutions that address the changing business needs of the medical group and ensure full alignment with the operational and strategic business goals of St. Charles Medical Group and the health system.
Continually analyze the market on physician compensation practices as well as best practices across the country with regard to model design and application to ensure market competitiveness.
Educate St. Charles Medical Group leadership on new methodologies of compensating providers that will align with service line system goals.
Create long term plans for each service line, including mapping out all compensation related needs.
Extract and manage performance data (performance data, productivity and quality as appropriate) as it relates to a provider’s compensation model to ensure payment practices are based on reliable data according to established provider contract arrangements.
Respond to inquiries from internal audit and compliance.
Work with St. Charles Medical Group and St. Charles Health System leadership to develop appropriate policies and procedures to ensure provider compensation program is efficient, transparent to those with proper authority and compliant with government regulations.
Develop documentation for compensation processes and procedures.
Support the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
Conduct duties in a collaborative fashion with multiple functional areas within St. Charles Medical Group and with managers and caregivers across the organization to gain in-depth knowledge of the business, identify emerging issues and to provide business focused solutions.

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to maximize the use of information systems and technology for tracking, analysis, reporting, administration and communications. Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills. Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills.
Proven expertise in compensation administration and plan design, market practices and data analysis. Comprehensive knowledge of HR policies and procedures, laws, and regulations governing pay administration. Comprehensive knowledge of provider contracts. Demonstrated ability to understand and respect the sensitive nature of information and navigate complex situations and tasks in a discrete, effective and efficient manner. Strong understanding of data management including data mapping and importing/exporting data between applications (e.g., Sharepoint, Access, Excel, Oracle and other custom proprietary applications). Working knowledge of all HR functional areas with an emphasis on EEOC laws and requirements, federal and state wage/hour employment laws. Demonstrated ability to work on concurrent projects while maintaining a high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration highly desirable.
Required: Valid Oregon driver's license and meet St. Charles Heath System driving requirements. Ability to travel to all St. Charles Heath System worksites.
Required: Experience with increasing responsibility for physician compensation analysis, model design and implementation.
Preferred: Demonstrated track record managing a successful and progressive physician compensation program.
