The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. You will analyze material, labor, or other expenses to determine production costs, cost of sales, or other cost-related performance measures. You must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. You will also work across teams to present and translate important financial information and assist in company audits. As an essential part of the accounting function, you will calculate the costs of goods sold on the company's financial reports, which affects the company's bottom line and purchasing/pricing decisions.

The Cost Accountant position is a newly created role within the Finance Department. This position will:
Capture and classify cost data to determine the cost associated with products/product lines, projects, or departments.
Compares actual costs to historical or projected costs and reports on variance.
Provide cost-related data in support of business decisions or for use in financial reporting.
Work collaboratively with Operations team to identify and implement effective cost tracking and reporting solutions
May participate in or oversee regular inventory cycle counts.
Prepare monthly journal entries manually or by initiating electronic creation through our software program
Computer literacy, MS Excel in particular (familiarity with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables)
Demonstrate Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
Collect cost information and maintaining an expenses database
Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies/variances
Review JEs carefully for anomalies and other inconsistencies
Prepare monthly and quarterly accounting reports for submission to management
Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances
Review costs for all inventory, labor, and material purchases
Analyze expenditures and recommend cost savings strategies
Assist in audits and general ledger preparation
Have previous experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or related work
Will regularly assist with A/P and A/R data entry requirements
Have a commitment to completing a 3-way match for transactions
Must be U.S. person within the meaning of U.S. regulations
Education and Experience:
BS Degree in Accounting or related area of study
Minimum 2 years related experience and/or training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles.
Experience with accounting software, like QuickBooks
A working understanding of the different techniques used to evaluate a product's cost such as the standard and traditional methods.
Experience in the design and creation of data collection systems and the subsequent analysis of this data for upper management.
The ability to communicate with people from multiple layers of a company -- that includes people from management to laborers.
Must be a team player
