The Senior Accountant, Tax & Audit is responsible for complex projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation and filing of all assigned tax returns and related reports; leading the annual financial audits working closely with outside CPA firm; and performing additional accounting functions within assigned areas including the preparation, maintenance, and control of financial records for monthly, quarterly and annual closes. - Analyzes tax records and reports; prepares and files local, state and federal tax returns; prepares claims for tax refunds; assists in preparation of statistical and financial reports; maintains tax records and prepares miscellaneous tax studies and assignments. This includes preparation of the annual Form 990 and Form 990T working closely with the Controller and an outside CPA firm.
- Assists in the preparation of the College's financial statements ensuring compliance with the College's financial policies.
- Acts as a resource for the college community by providing pertinent information regarding and pertaining to tax and audit compliance.
- Balances books periodically and prepares profit and loss, income and balance sheet statements as needed. Maintains receipt and disbursement reports.
- Ensures accounting procedures are in accordance to GAAP, FASB, and other applicable regulations. Assists in establishing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Serves as liaison with on-campus departments as well as external parties, providing financial information, financial system utilization, internal accounting practices and policies, etc.
- Develops and recommends complex accounting systems, methods, procedures and controls. Develops and/or modifies major policies and procedures for financial reporting and cost analysis in specialized areas.
- Acts as a resource for junior accountants as needed.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
Supervises: N/A Education Requirements: Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor's Degree (Business preferred); CPA required Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements: - A minimum of 8-10 years of increasingly responsible accounting experience.
- Must have excellent financial, analytical, accounting, and business skills
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent attention to detail
- Must have project management expertise
- Demonstrated effectiveness in working with a diverse student body, faculty, staff, and other constituents
- Ability to work proactively and independently
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) Workday Financials a plus
- Must have strong presentation, organizational, and reporting skills
- Financial literacy with experience in general ledgers, income statements, balance sheets, and accounting terms
- Understanding of financial systems and how to use and improve them to the optimal efficiency
- Ability to establish creditability and confidence with stakeholders
- Must have exceptional collaboration and interpersonal skills, and the ability to be effective engaging with all levels within the college
- Must have the flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, applied across problems of varying nature and scope; ability to identify potential areas for financial improvements and make necessary recommendations to leaders
- Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results
- Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions
- Knowledge of GAAP, federal A-21 cost requirements
