The Accountant-Journey in the Accounting Services area will provide accounting support in areas such as institutional trust fund administration, lease accounting, fiduciary accounting, annual bond compliance requirements, cash counts, cash reconciliation, capital asset accounting procedures, and other analysis as needed. The position is responsible for the establishment, administration, distribution and monitoring of Endowment and other Institutional Trust Fund accounts. This includes financial activity for endowments, overhead receipts and other restricted and unrestricted funds that are not managed in other departments. The position endures funds are properly disbursed in accordance with regulations established by the approved fund authority for each fund. Administration of these funds jeopardize the integrity and financial security of the University. Ad fiscal year-end, the position is involved in providing information for the University financial reports and assisting with the year-end closing process. This position works directly with State auditors to answer specific questions related to University accounting procedures, practices and methods as needed.
This position must understand, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices. The person in the position requires considerable understanding of accounting theory and practice in addition to considerable knowledge and expertise with legal and contractual terminology. Consistent, accurate, complete and correct accounting procedures are critical to the University financial reporting and compliance processes. This position interprets state and federal law, University policies, UNC-FIT Guidelines, N.C. General Statutes, Foundation policies, investment activity, and profit/loss statements as it relates to the funds assigned. The person in this position will frequently use electronic tools for data extraction, analysis, and financial reporting.

Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in accounting; or Associate's degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
