We are seeking a highly motivated, talented Senior Project Accountant to join our energetic and dynamic accounting team. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, in a fast-paced work environment.
The Senior Project Accountant will have responsibility and assist in all areas of project accounting and financial reporting including, but not limited to:
Accounting liaison to construction project teams.
Managing project pay application packages and overall process including approvals, timing of funding and subcontract payment approvals.
Supporting project teams with project budgets, cost management and control, forecasting, identifying financial risks and opportunities, project and job cost accounting systems, and data integrity within systems and processes.
Supporting company leadership as well as internal and external customers on project financial reporting and analysis ensuring transparency on project information relating to profitability, risks and opportunities.
Ensuring accounting internal controls and project controls are appropriate within the processes and procedures of the project accounting function.
Responsible for timely preparation of monthly project pay application packages and retainage requests with appropriate documentation per contract requirements. This includes coordinating with Project Coordinators on approved monthly subcontractor pay applications, reviewing subcontractor pay applications for accuracy and coding, tracking any known issues with subcontractors or vendors associated with the monthly billing, retainage requests and change orders to protect against any lien risks, claims or disputes.
Responsible for tracking project pay application approvals, general ledger posting and submitting to owner for monthly draw submittals.
Responsible for tracking payment of project pay applications by owners and subsequent approvals for subcontractor payments. Provide Accounts Payable with subcontractor payment approvals for processing.
Support Project Coordinators with subcontractor compliance and payments with regarding to terms and conditions of subcontract including retainage, joint payments, lien waivers, certificates of insurance, and required reporting such as daily reports, as built drawings, and warranty documents.
Support project managers with managing project budgets, owner change orders, budget modifications, cost management including assistance with forecasting and reporting, project close outs and any other additional services such as check requests and employee reimbursements.
Interface with project managers regularly and prior to monthly forecast meetings to review line item costs assisting with cost forecasting based on current trends, additional cost expected or potential subcontract cost based on open change events tracking in the project management system. Participate in the monthly project forecast meetings.
Responsible for first level approval of project field invoices and accurate cost coding based on budget estimates. Support and facilitate commitment requirements on large dollar spending.
Responsible for ensuring integrity of data between project management and accounting systems, troubleshooting problems to determine root causes, and initiating corrective actions.
Support Controller with monthly project forecasting, construction work in process and revenue recognition analysis and reporting, project cost and commitment analysis, financial and cash flow reporting.
Support construction and accounting teams with process improvements by delivering ideas and solutions, improving utilization of system tools and resources, process and procedure documentation, teaching and training to support communication and deliverables.
Responsible for GMP budget and schedule of value setup ensuring project management integration into required systems on new projects including directing or supporting GMP budget review meetings.
Support Controller with evaluating GMP cost estimates and allocations on new projects.
Support Controller with construction annual business plan, budget development and reforecasting.
Responsible for maintaining job cost accounting system including data integrity, cost codes and document control.
Communicate and interface with project teams, vendors and external parties on company policies and procedures.
Assist with resolving lien issues, claims and disputes with subcontractors and vendors.
Assist with construction personnel time tracking and billings to projects and preconstruction contracts.
Assist with monthly and year end accounting closings by preparing reconciliations, workpapers and journal entries.
Support Controller with timely responses to owner inquiries, bank inquiries and project audit requests.
Support Controller with timely responses and inquiries for financial, tax, insurance, and payroll audits.
Support and manage special projects as needed.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 5 years of accounting and construction experience with relevant experience and understanding of the financial implications related to GMP contract language, project management and controls, project budgets and cost management, change order management, and forecasting.
Knowledge of GAAP related to the construction industry
Understanding of accounting processes and internal controls
Strong proficiency with complex financial systems and applications
Advanced Excel proficiency
