General Statement of Duties: Provides support for the Financial Accounting Department. Some examples of duties include processing documents in Banner and MMARS, reconciling cash, expenses, and revenues, and preparing year-end entries and audit schedules.
Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to: Essential:
1. Processes financial documents including, but not limited to: cash receipts, cash disbursements, journal entries, and budget transfers. 2. Processes transactions in MMARS including, but not limited to: payroll and tuition transfers, IE/ITI/ITA entries, and 901 entries. 3. Prepare monthly bank reconciliation. 4. Responsible for the financial management and reporting of grants. Works in cooperation with the University Grants Office. 5. Assists in preparing year-end entries and schedules for the audit. 6. Compiles and prepares 1099 forms annually. Generates report of vendors, reviews and determines type of services performed, and verifies if 1099 should be issued. 7. Reconciles fixed asset accounts. Prepares and compiles additions, pending, write-offs, and disposals. Generates invoice to asset tag extract report weekly. 8. Compiles and prepares drawdown of federal funds related to financial aid and makes related cash receipt, revenue, and receivable entries in Banner. 9. Reconciles cash, revenue, and expenses monthly between Banner and MMARS. 10. Audits petty cash accounts throughout the University. 11. Additional duties as assigned within the Financial Accounting Department.
Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field; a minimum of three years equivalent full-time work experience may be substituted for higher education requirement.
Three years of full-time current experience using accounting software. Experience working with Banner Finance Application Navigator from Ellucian preferred.
Demonstrated familiarity with PC applications, especially Microsoft Excel and Word.
Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated effectiveness in dealing with a variety of people (students, faculty, and staff).
Demonstrated ability to perform tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and plan workload in order to meet all deadlines.
Salary: For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.
