Position summary: The Director of Business Services will prepare financial reports to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. This individual manages all AR, AP, and other financial processes of the school. The DoBS is responsible for all customer relationships and communication related to tuition and other auxiliary services. This individual manages all vendor contracts and relationships, and ensures that the facilities and services of the school beyond academics are maintained at the highest standard across all campuses.
Supervisory Responsibilities: supervises part time bookkeeper and facility crews
Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
Maintains the general ledger.
Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
Manages all parent and customer communications related to tuition and auxiliary services in a very prompt and positive manner;
Manages all vendor relationships, contracts, visits, negotiations, and supports the Head of Schools in finding and choosing vendors in alignment with strategic goals;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential skills and experience:
Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
Minimum of 2+ years of QuickBooks experience.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Eagerness and flexibility to learn new software programs.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline required.
Three to five years of accounting experience required, experience in independent schools preferred, three to five years experience in business or office management required.
Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
