This position is primarily responsible for reconciling the University's main operating bank accounts, along with preparing and filing monthly Sales and Use Tax reports, escheating outstanding checks to multiple states, supervising the cancel and re-issuance of Bank 1 (main University's operating bank account) checks, daily monitoring of bank transactions and receipts, along with reviewing and proposing updates to the Cash Management Plan and subsequent policies.
Reconciling the bank accounts also includes performing semi-automatic and manual reconciliation processes in PeopleSoft daily. Once all possible items have been reconciled, research and resolution of outstanding items must be completed. This position also is responsible for preparing daily deposit for receipts, vouchers, posting transactions to the University PeopleSoft Financial System (also referred to as ConnectCarolina) along with monitoring and reconciling daily deposits from other campus units. This position will prepare, review (submitted by campus), and file monthly sales and use tax to the Department of Revenue. Assists in initiating or reviewing/approving wire transfers into and out of the University bank accounts. Escheating outstanding checks to the State Treasurer's offices and reviewing positive pay exceptions daily. This position will have additional tasks related to quarter and year-end as assigned by the Cash Manager.
This position also serves as primary backup to the Cash Manager.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in accounting; or Associate’s degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Candidate will have thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices; experience in bank reconciliation, the ability to understand and apply cash control standards; accounting standards; financial procedure and processes from initiation to completion; and understand interrelationships among University financial systems.
Candidate will have excellent organizational skills; coordinate project plans and follow through on activities and manage priorities effectively; analyze and document complex and unique issues and develop solutions.
Intermediate to advanced level of Microsoft Excel is critical to success in this position.
Preference is for candidate to possess a Master of Business Administration, Accounting, or Public Administration.
Preferred candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, in dealing with both internal customers across various organizational levels and with external customers such as the Office of the State Controller, external and internal auditors and banking officers.
Significant work experience in the accounting field in higher education, ability to adapt and learn quickly, perform a variety of accounting assignment, and working knowledge of PeopleSoft General Ledger is a plus.
