Responsible for daily payroll and related accounting activities such as processing semi-monthly payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll allocations, general ledger entries, reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts, new hire onboarding, and reporting. Contribute to the Finance Department achieving all required accounting and government standards and company’s objectives and mission.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process accurate and on-time semi-monthly payrolls.
Allocate salaries and fringe based on employee’s time allocations, HOW’s allocation policy, and government & funder regulations, including OMB Uniform Guidance.
Review and process accounts payables related to payroll and benefits, such as health insurance, dental & life insurance, and 401k employee deductions and employer match.
Process any payroll-related accounts payable, such as reimbursements for employees in federal work study program.
Post journal entries to the general ledger to assure all payroll related costs are correctly expensed and allocated to the correct department, contract and source every month.
Partner with staff and managers to assure timely submission of employee’s time allocation, PTO request and approvals, and other payroll-related items.
Work in partnership with the Finance Team to assure that all monthly, quarterly & annual reporting is submitted on time.
Meet deadlines related to HOW’s monthly accounting cycle.
Partner with operations/human resources staff in successful onboarding of new hires.
Reconcile payroll related balance sheets accounts monthly.
Maintain any prepaid accounts related to payroll.
Maintain complete and organized payroll files.
Respond timely to all legal and payroll related correspondence, including wage garnishments, unemployment claims, etc.
Participate in audit preparations, including internal and funder audits.
Participate in preparation of reports and required financial data for government and private grants and awards
Review quarterly and annual payroll-related tax filings for accuracy.
Carry out daily accounting activities
Contribute to Finance Departments ability to conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) and compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance and grant specific standards and requirements
Assuring HOW remains in compliance with federal, state and local laws as well as funder requirements.
Perform other various accounting support tasks or projects as assigned.
Participate in continuous improvement and system enhancement projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in accounting, business, finance, human resources or related field
At least 2 years of experiencing in similar position
Proficient in using technology as a reporting tool
Excellent excel skills and attention to detail.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Timely and accurate accounting and processing support.
Experience with YARDI system and CBIZ system preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Superior attention to detail and integrity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, and walk up and down stairs
Must possess valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance
Must pass applicable background tests
