The Tax Manager is responsible for the day-to-day income, payroll, sales, property, excise, deferred compensation and fuel tax compliance. This includes supporting the monthly close process, analyzing and reconciling tax accounts, preparing tax returns and quarterly estimates, making payments, researching and documenting tax positions and assisting as needed on ad hoc projects.
Essential Job Functions
Maintain detailed analysis of tax accounts which includes supporting analysis and memorandum
Prepare effective income tax rate analysis using budgets and forecasts
Responsible for the preparation of corporate Federal and State income tax returns, quarterly estimates, and extension requests
Responsible for shareholder and extended family income tax compliance
Year-end informational return reporting
Identify, research, and prepare technical memos on Federal and State tax issues; monitor legislative changes and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) developments impacting the income tax
Monitor and plan for GILTI (Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income) income inclusion and all CFC (Controlled Foreign Corporation) compliance
Work in close partnership with payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure tax compliance
Consult on bid preparation to ensure accurate provision of tax in new jurisdictions
Assist with data gathering, work paper review and written appeals for tax audits
Maintain tax calendar to ensure that all deadlines are met
Liaison with external advisors on various matters including tax fixed asset depreciation maintenance
10+ years total experience preferred with ideally 5+ years as a tax manager in public accounting
Marine/construction experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
Advanced skills in standard office software packages
Supervisory experience preferred
Ability to work a 40-hour work week, M-F, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., additional hours as needed
This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language
Ability to remain in seated stationary position for long periods of time
Ability to navigate around office to use equipment as needed
Light lifting (Up to 20 lbs.) as needed
