The Controller's Office at Pratt Institute seeks a Part-time Payroll Accountant for our busy college Payroll Department. The Payroll Accountant will play an integral role in ensuring that our faculty and staff are paid in a timely and accurate manner. This is a 25 hour per week position and includes some benefits.
Assist in processing the payrolls for our:
Facilities Management and Public Safety officers on a weekly basis
Administrative staff and students on a bi-weekly basis
Part-time faculty on a semi-monthly basis; and
Full-time faculty on a monthly basis
Become proficient in the use of Paylocity, Kronos, and NextGen software, our online payroll, time and attendance and student employment systems.
Work closely with Human Resources and other campus departments responsible for submitting information pertaining to payroll actions.
Maintain Excel spreadsheets to track payroll information including new hires, terminations, salary and budget changes, etc.
Process and input into Paylocity: new hires, terminations, address and withholding changes, manual checks, stale/void checks, direct deposits, garnishments, etc.
Calculate deductions for union dues, pension and medical health insurance, other voluntary contributions, etc.
Respond to faculty and staff payroll related inquiries and assist employees with registering for Paylocity self-service.
Prepare and process journal entries for submission to the accounting department and final posting into Colleague, our higher education integrated database.
Review and prove payroll registers to facilitate prompt and accurate transmittal of payrolls.
Perform all other related duties as required.
Education: Associates Degree in Accounting or Business Management required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience and Skills:
Must have a minimum of 2 years' general accounting and payroll experience including knowledge of General Ledger Accounts and practices. Experience with integrated accounting systems as well as web based Payroll, Time and Attendance, and related software required; demonstrated knowledge of Paylocity, Colleague, Kronos, Nextgen and Docuware strongly preferred.
Advanced Excel ability including proficiency with pivot tables and V-Lookup formulas are required. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat, and demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively and work and with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds are essential.
