The purpose of this temporary position is to provide accounting support in the Department of English:
Accounting and Reporting: Apply generally accepted accounting principles to several functional areas of the department and Ooligan Press; interpret State or Federal laws to evaluate impact on accounting policies and practices; establish controls for automated functions such as check issue or purchase order generation; analyze and interpret accounting records, statements, and reports; prepare written summary reports for management; identify and resolve accounting problems; review audit and internal control compliance; post, balance, and close accounts; reconcile accounts to general or control ledgers and prepare adjusting entries as required; prepare vouchers; identify out of balance conditions, track errors through the accounting system, and make appropriate reversals or correcting entries. Coordinate monthly/quarterly/fiscal year end. Provide monthly reports to management and faculty on available fund balances, contractual commitments and balance sheets related to Ooligan Press.
Financial Transactions: Prepare, track and input PO's, labor distributions, invoices, personal and travel reimbursements, personal service invoices and personal service contracts. Serve as the primary purchaser for the department and Ooligan Press. Coordinate and assemble the necessary back-up documentation.
This position reports to the Department Manager. Schedule is Monday to Friday 40 hours per week and duration is expected to be six months from start date. Work will be performed remote from the campus until further notice.
Successful completion of a background check
Previous accounting experience in higher education.
Previous related work experience at Portland State University.
