The Gillen Brewer School seeks a Junior Accountant to provide support to the Business Office by managing daily accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail. This is a full-time position reporting to the Accounting Manager and Controller/CFO.
Supervisor(s): Accounting Manager and Controller/CFO Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Calendar to Follow: 12-month Administrative Starting: Late July / Early August 2020
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Review payment requests and purchase orders for appropriate coding, documentation, and approval
Enter invoices and bills into FundEZ and prepare them for payment
Enter corporate card expenses and obtain all receipts and backup documentation
Enter flexible spending expenses
Obtain W-9s from new vendors and maintain vendor files
Assist in the preparation of 1099s
Assist in the annual audit
Review purchase orders for completeness and approval and place orders with vendors
Order office, cleaning, and program supplies as requested and in anticipation of future needs
Follow up on status of deliveries, returns, etc.
Maintain inventory of supplies and office hardware
Coordinate catering needs for school events and meetings
Register staff for professional development (conference registrations and lodging if applicable)
Other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
2+ years of related experience, preferably in a nonprofit or independent school
Hands-on experience working with general ledgers
Excellent problem-solving skills
Able to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
Experience with FundEZ accounting software strongly preferred
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
You must be authorized to work in the United States and be willing to undergo a number of clearances including NYC DOE fingerprinting, a medical health form, and other background checks.
