As Lead Accountant in the Fixed Assets Department, you will be responsible for comprehensive activities associated with preparing, reviewing and analyzing accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformity to reporting and procedural standards.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Conduct complex assignments and analysis involving accounting projects.
Responsibilities will include both GAAP and FERC reporting, accounting for asset retirement obligations (ARO) and rate case support which will require the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Develop company position on complex transactions/new accounting guidance and communicate to senior management, standard-setting and/or regulatory organizations Identify inconsistencies and problems and works to resolve them.
Ensure appropriate accounting controls.
Lead project teams on specific accounting and internal control issues relevant to new products, major business and organizational events, system conversions, upgrades and enhancements.
Provide leadership including functional advice and training to less experienced accountants.
Routinely interact with internal and external customers.
7+ years of general accounting experience or 5+ years of experience working in public accounting (A Master's degree will be counted as one year toward experience. A partial year of experience of six months or more will be rounded up to one year).
Other required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:
Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. General Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices and procedures
Accounting controls experience preferred
Experience working with asset retirement obligations (ARO) is a plus
Experience working with Power Plan software is a plus
Excellent computer skills including Excel and SQL (Note: SQL skills are a preferred skillset)
Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
Demonstrated leadership and decision making skills
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
