The Controller provides professional direction in accounting and financial affairs of Texas Biomed and is responsible for financial analysis of Texas Biomed operations.
Role and Responsibilities:
Coordinates, schedules and supervises the activities of assigned accounting staff.
Oversees staff workload and department workflow to ensure timely and accurate financial information.
Ensures accurate invoicing and timely collection of funds due to the Institute.
Coordinates, discusses and resolves a variety of accounting related matters with principal investigators, department directors, administrative assistants, public accounting firms, government auditors, contracting officers and similar officials.
Conducts or coordinates audits of Institute accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
Oversees routine accounting and general ledger functions to include account analysis and reconciliations.
Reviews reports and other deliverables prepared by Accounting to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Oversees month-end and year-end closing procedures and planning.
Prepares financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, and other reports for internal and external recipients.
Manages accounting personnel activities, including the selection, termination and promotion of assigned personnel and staff development.
Manages multiple priorities and projects in an efficient and professional manner.
Reviews and initiates changes to financial system to ensure smooth functioning of total system, and coordinates with Information Technology department, as necessary, to accomplish this task.
Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
Monitors financial activities and details such as reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER: This is a full-time salaried exempt position. Texas Biomedical Research Institute business hours are Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:Required: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university. The required major is accounting. Requires five or more years of job specific experience. A minimum of five years in accounting with increasing levels of responsibility and supervisory experience. Excellent written and oral presentation skills required. Strong Excel skills required. Preferred: Experience with federal grants and contracts in a not?for?profit environment preferred. Oracle experience preferred.
