What We’re Looking For Baylor University’s Controller’s Office is looking for a Senior Accountant – Facilities & Construction Services. This position reports to the Director of Debt and Capital Asset Accounting and will support the compliance, accounting, and audit work of the team. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, five years of relevant work experience and a CPA is required. A Master’s degree, seven years of relevant experience and CPA is preferred.
Involved in the preparation of annual budget planning and financial forecasting for his/her assigned financial unit(s).
Uses professional judgment and integrity to evaluate the appropriateness of expenditures and possesses the maturity and confidence to address questionable transactions either directly or by escalating if needed.
Adopts financial best practices and ensures all transactions follow applicable policies and accounting standards for facilities management and construction activities and real estate services; maintains a big picture perspective in order to ensure that all expenditures are evaluated to assess impact on divisional operational needs and goals.
Actively monitors financial systems and procedures for all programs and cost centers in area of responsibility through adherence to sound accounting principles and Baylor policies.
Prepares reports as appropriate to meet University and Departmental requirements, including cash flow projections and power points for executive presentation.
Prepares timely budget projections and analyses, analyzes fiscal impact of various process options and/or new programs; makes recommendations for improved cost effectiveness and budget utilization; assists with budget management.
Responsible for special projects or assignments, which require a thorough understanding of fiscal and departmental procedures.
May supervise the work of staff engaged in general accounting and bookkeeping functions and administrative staff as necessary.
Acquires and maintains an extensive understanding of University processes and systems, including Oracle Cloud financial systems (Ignite) and facilities management systems.
Assists with managing third party contracts and analysis.
Prepares and develops presentations, meeting agendas, and other resource documents.
Plans and implements office procedures and documentation of processes.
Provides effective coordination and communication.
Performs other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
