The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Nursing (SON) is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director, Financial Operations. The Assistant Director, Financial Operations accomplishes responsibilities by primarily performing significant managerial functions within SON's Administrative Services team overseeing budgeting, reporting, payroll and purchasing. Manages the daily operations of this team. Develops and achieves broadly stated goals and objectives in alignment with defined goals of the School. Primarily responsible for overall execution of results. Wide latitude to make managerial decisions within area of responsibility. Recommends financial, personnel, and significant strategic decisions for upper senior professional approval.

Oversees financial operations to ensure the achievement of the school’s strategic and financial objectives.
Develops and executes functional standards of operations, procedures, processes and protocols to ensure compliant, effective and efficient operations
Assist in developing long- and short-term planning to meet business objectives and ensures long-and short- term assignments and projects are achieved
Manage the finances for the School's departments to support strategic initiatives which includes developing, monitoring, analyzing, forecasting and reporting on the overall school’s annual budget along with unit specific annual budgets
Identifies, develops and implements procedures/practices to ensure research administration goals and objectives are met while complying with University, Federal, State and Sponsor rules and regulations
Conceptualizes, develops and provides ongoing training and education to the department or school to increase institutional knowledge related to business development, philanthropic engagement, grants and contracts.
Oversees budgeting and financial reporting including tracking of all financial transactions, reporting transactions to external agencies, and providing detailed financial plans to the schools’ leadership
Oversees all financial transactions for revenue including annual audits and cash management. Manages assigned staff in the efficient and confidential processing of all financial transactions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or business related field required. A master’s in business or related field is preferred and may be substituted for two years of experience.
Type of Experience: Five (5) years of accounting, budgeting, auditing, assessment of internal controls, or financial analysis experience with at least two (2) years in specialization budget and financial analysis required, preferably in a higher education environment.
Supervisory Experience: Two (2) years of experience at a management/leadership level.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to support a mission and strategic vision. Experience with BANNER finance system and Oracle Financials is desirable.
