A growing and profitable privately held, $150+MM distribution company has retained Sockwell Partners to recruit a Vice President, Finance.
This person will sit on the leadership team and will ultimately be the successor to the current Chief Financial Officer who plans to retire within six to 12 months of the Vice President’s arrival. The company has locations throughout the Southeast and bifurcated headquarters just outside of Raleigh and Richmond. The successful candidate could choose to work out of either location with regular travel between locations.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the President, the Vice President, Finance will initially oversee the accounting and administration function. Over the ensuing months, the successful candidate will take over responsibility for information technology and human resources along with other long-term initiatives. Ultimately, the Vice President, Finance will become Chief Financial Officer and oversee a 60-plus person organization. The successful candidate will also add immediate value by further professionalizing the function and streamlining processes and infrastructure.
Some early projects will likely include reviewing the financial reporting system, improving capital investment analysis, creating a useful financial dashboard, and refining compensation strategies.

Key Qualifications include:
twelve-plus years’ accounting and financial leadership experience, experience in B2B wholesale distribution or service environments with multiple locations is valued; demonstrated success in positions of increasing responsibility with senior level business contributions; prior experience as the chief financial officer or divisional chief financial officer is preferred, but not required;
ability to understand the company’s business model and customer requirements to effectively drive high performance and predictable and consistent business results;
proven ability to synthesize complex information into practical or pragmatic recommendations;
strong leadership skills; candidates should be is passionate, self-motivated, and able to work independently and with others in a team environment with the ability to determine workflow, priorities, and constraints to achieve results through others;
intelligence; company requires an intellectually bright, out-of-the-box thinker and problem-solver with the ability to assist the President, COO and business/functional leaders in charting a course for current and future operations;
experience in developing simple, highly strategic financial planning and analysis, budgeting, financial metrics/dashboards and reporting mechanisms that allow business units to easily assess where they stand, where potential problems lie, illuminate cash flow and return on investment, and other critical business elements;
proven record of improvement through formal process improvement methodologies which result in organizational efficiencies;
Master’s degree in accounting, finance or business preferred; CPA designation is valued.
