SUMMARY:  Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is accountable for the planning, organization, direction and control of the daily accounting operations within the Finance Department. The Controller will oversee the tribal general fund, other governmental funds and the annual audit preparation. Assist the Assistant Chief Financial Officer with establishing departmental policies and procedures to implement the goals of the SRMT Strategic Plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. 

• Assist in preparing annual audited and monthly compiled governmental financial statements
• Assist with coordinating and monitoring the annual financial statement audit and single audit 
• Assist in preparing the following annual financial reports:
• Schedule of Federal Awards (SEFA)
• Indirect Cost Rate Proposal
• Consolidate Fiscal Report (CFR)
• Ambulatory Health Consolidated Fiscal Report (AHCF)
• Medicare and Medicaid Cost Report
• Assist in the annual budgeting process of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe
• Implements required changes to improve finance/accounting functions and productivity
• Assist with establishing and monitoring internal controls over all financial tasks and activities
• Reviews governmental reports for accuracy before issuance and ensures timely response to inquiries from funding agencies
• Helps to ensure that all programs are operating in compliance with the Federal OMB Guidelines
• Maintains the general ledger and prepares monthly reconciliations
• Responsible for posting all unposted sessions entered into the accounting software after review and approval by designated personnel per the Finance Policy
• Oversees program accounting, general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Assist with revisions of departmental policies and procedures
• Oversees and reviews all monthly reconciliations
• Ensures preparation and reconciliation of federal and state program funding drawdowns
• Promote a positive image of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe
• Exhibit a professional and courteous manner in dealing with community and colleagues
• Other related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Supervises subordinate employees currently including three (3) Senior Accountants and shall be responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. 

The Controller shall carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. Controller’s responsibilities may include, but not limited to; oversight of  interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems within the Department.
