SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is accountable for the planning, organization, direction and control of the daily accounting operations within the Finance Department. The Controller will oversee the tribal general fund, other governmental funds and the annual audit preparation. Assist the Assistant Chief Financial Officer with establishing departmental policies and procedures to implement the goals of the SRMT Strategic Plan. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises subordinate employees currently including three (3) Senior Accountants and shall be responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. The Controller shall carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. Controller’s responsibilities may include, but not limited to; oversight of interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems within the Department.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year College or University in Accounting or related field and five years related experience and/or training; and considerable experience in a progressively responsible fiscal management capacity. Three years supervisory experience is required. Prefer knowledge of the Federal OMB guidelines, GASB and GAAP accounting standards. Prior experience in Fund Accounting is preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral/written communication, leadership and conflict resolution skills required. Ability to lead with energy, integrity, authority and decisiveness. Must have excellent computer skills including word, excel, access and experience with varying databases. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to meet deadlines. |
