Job Summary: The Construction Accountant is responsible for performing the day to day accounting required to maintain the organization’s construction project general ledgers.  Working under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Construction Accountant is responsible for recording construction draw activity, the monthly closing of accounting records, financial reporting and assistance with annual audit and tax workpaper preparation.  The Construction Accountant also provides general accounting support to the Finance Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Records construction budget into project sources using summary spreadsheet.
2. Records construction draws into project sources and uses summary spreadsheet to reconcile for accuracy.
3. Provides project level financial reporting to construction lenders and other stakeholders.
4. Responds to inquiries from construction lenders .
5. Performs monthly close and related journal entries, using Sage 300 G/L software.
6. Maintains and improves supporting schedules for multiple construction entities.
7. Prepares quarterly financial statements for multiple projects.
8. Leads transition of construction project accounting records to management company after construction is completed.
9. Analyzes project expense classifications against project budget and documents significant variances for management.
10. Assists with providing quarterly dashboard reporting and board meeting schedules to board of directors.
11. Prepares audit and tax workpapers for year-end annual audit and tax preparation by external accounting firms.
12. Assists in improvement of internal processes and procedures as necessary.
13. Responds timely to financial inquiries from staff members and external partners.
14. Assists with construction predevelopment cost tracking for Cinnaire Solutions (real estate development company).
15. Collaborates with internal construction development managers to ensure accurate financial reporting for construction projects.
