The Office of Internal Audit at James Madison University is recruiting for a Senior or Staff Internal Auditor. Title and salary will be dependent upon the qualifications of the successful applicant. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Internal Audit and is part of a dynamic team that is supported by the audit committee of the Board of Visitors and conforms to Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards.
A successful candidate is expected to possess high standards of ethics and integrity, demonstrate professional behavior, and uphold the core values of the University. The position requires the ability to absorb and process new information quickly, show initiative and work independently as well as be part of a team while utilizing strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment.
Job duties include planning audits, analyzing processes, assessing risks, documenting and evaluating controls, developing audit programs, conducting financial, operational, compliance, special audits or consulting engagements, drafting audit reports, and working collaboratively with other individuals and departments.
Required: • Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, computer information systems, and/or a related business area • General knowledge of information technology • Expertise with Microsoft Office products • Strong verbal and impeccable written communication skills • High degree of professionalism in working with confidential and sensitive matters • Analytical skills, creative problem-solving abilities, curiosity, and a sense of humor
Additional Required Qualifications for Senior Auditor: • A professional certification such as CPA or CIA, or evidence of progression towards achieving certification • Financial, operational, or compliance audit experience
Preferred: • Two years of experience in internal auditing and/or public accounting • Experience auditing in a university setting • Experience with PeopleSoft, data analytics, and/or automated workpapers • Risk assessment and/or consulting experience • Advanced degree in a related field • Knowledge of general information technology controls • Knowledge of the IIA Standards
