Lake Country Power is a Touchstone Energy® electrical distribution cooperative with 43,000 members in northeastern Minnesota. We have an excellent opportunity for an accountant in our Mountain Iron service center.
Update and maintain payroll records ensuring confidentiality in all respects.
Process bi-monthly payroll including entry and review of employee timesheets; preparation of employee direct deposit notifications; calculation and remittance of payroll taxes, benefits, and other deductions.
File quarterly and annual State, Federal, and unemployment payroll tax reports; process annual employee W-2’s.
Prepare, record, and post fixed, cash, and periodic journal entries to the general ledger; ensure proper general ledger account classification.
Invest cash on hand in interest bearing accounts as directed.
Process and prepare distribution of payroll related and other accounts payable; ensure proper general ledger account classification and timeliness of payments through various payment methods.
Reconcile general ledger accounts; reconcile subsidiary ledgers with general ledger control accounts.
Prepare information and reports as requested for annual audit.
Required qualifications and skills include:
Associate Degree with accounting concentration plus two year’s accounting experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
Prior payroll experience is preferred.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and computerized accounting software.
Knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures as they relate to general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, materials management, and fixed assets.
Knowledge of payroll wage, hour and tax laws; Minnesota sales and use tax laws; and other applicable federal, state and local laws and reporting requirements.
