Under the general, technical, and administrative supervision of the Controller, and in accordance with The Derryfield School’s established policies and procedures, the Senior Accountant is ultimately responsible for the efficient management of the accounts receivable process. Other general ledger responsibilities are to support the Chief Financial Officer and Controller to effectively support carrying out the requirements of the department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including, but not limited to) Accounts Receivable: - Post all A/R activity to the G/L on a weekly basis.
- Post all gift accounting activity to the G/L on a weekly basis.
- Work closely with the Advancement office to reconcile all fundraising activities.
- Maintain reconciliations of assigned account numbers.
- Maintain files and documentation accurately in accordance with accepted accounting practices.
- Research and recommend on-going efficiency improvements within the A/R and gift accounting processes to the Controller and CFO.
General Ledger: - Prepare journal entries and spreadsheets, in the performance of accounting, budget, and financial analysis work.
- Perform the month end close process and reconciliation of assigned ledgers.
- Prepare and oversee all required financial documents for annual audit, working with auditors throughout the process.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge: - Strong knowledge of accounting theory and business.
- Highly proficient with computer systems and applications.
- Non profit experience a plus
- Consistent accuracy, attention to detail and ability to follow through.
- Excellent organizational skills with particular ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with exceptional initiative and judgment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment and ability to consistently execute superior customer service.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Sound problem solving and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in and the motivation and ability to continuously improve Blackbaud Financial Edge Skills.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible work schedules, which may include some evenings and weekends.
