The Sr. Accountant will provide receivable management and budget expertise to Hennepin Technical College by applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements, and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are followed while also ensuring compliance with all Minnesota State, federal and state regulations. The position provides day-to-day guidance and direction to accounts receivable team and leads financial record maintenance and will direct and complete all financial activities related to accounts receivable including but not limited to tuition, third party, contracts, and facilities use agreements. This position will also assist with annual budgets and ongoing maintenance to ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses, assist in identifying weaknesses in the business practices and internal controls. Reports to the Director of Finance in designing and implementing improvements. This position works directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and fully supports the College's commitment to equity and inclusion.
Specific duties include:
Oversee accuracy and efficiency of accounts receivable operations including tuition, third party, contracts and facilities use agreements
Assist in developing tools, statements and strategies for use by budget managers in budget management and oversight
Develop and monitor aged accounts receivables process and reports to ensure timely and appropriate follow-up is occurring to students and customers so that account collection occurs and bad debt is minimized
Prepare schedules and documentation of transactions for financial audits
Review, document and enhance bad debt collection process and reporting with Minnesota Department of Revenue and third party collection agencies

Minimum Qualifications(expected to have to enter job)
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field
Three (3) years’ of experience working with financial statements, budgets, accounts receivable and collections with the proven ability to interpret and analyze fiscal reports and records
Prior work experience in governmental accounting
Development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to resolve problems
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and business administration practices
Well-developed skills in the use of the Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Two (2) or more years ’ of experience working with financial audits, review and fiscal analysis in large, complex institutions
Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement
Ability to interact with many constituencies to develop and produce needed financial output
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with management and other staff
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications(desired but not expected to have to enter job)
Master’s degree in accounting
Prior budgeting experience in a college or university
Knowledge of Minnesota State policies, procedures and practices in the areas of accounting, business services, or financial management
Working knowledge of Minnesota State systems and their interrelationships
More than three (3) years’ experience working with financial statements, accounts receivable and financial audits
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and fully supports the College’s commitment to equity and inclusion.
