The New England Innovation Academy is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the oversight and management of the day-to-day financial activities and responsibilities of the school. Must have a start-up mentality and open to change. The Senior Accountant will help to create processes and procedures consistent with NEIA’s mission and culture and will be responsible for financial strategic planning, analysis reporting and forecasting, the implementation of finance systems, and the management of all accounting operations. Additionally, the position performs accounting functions in the areas of account balancing, ledger reconciliation, discrepancy resolution and prepares and maintains financial records to track the school’s assets, liabilities, expenses, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related activities. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of finance and accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility that includes experience overseeing accounting functions. Must be detail oriented, organized, take initiative, follow-through, and possess the ability to work independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to, the following:
Plans, directs, and coordinates all general accounting and day-to-day finance operations for the school.
Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
Publishes timely monthly financial statements and closes month-end.
Maintains the general ledger.
Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with GAAP standards.
Manages the purchasing and invoicing system.
Verifies, codes, and completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures expenditures are allocated to the appropriate accounts.
Communicates with staff and vendors regarding payment inquiries in a timely manner to resolve related issues/disputes.
Reconciles bank accounts, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from the bank.
Manages accounts receivable collections.
Oversees regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance.
Prepares tax payments and filings and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government agencies.
Evaluates and establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
Assists Head of Operations with the development of school accounting practices and procedures, and offers recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
Recommends financial strategies, objectives, and policies to management.
Works with the Head of Operations in developing and monitoring business performance metrics and advises on cost containment strategies.
Coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the external audits.
Manages the budget preparation process together with the Head of Operations.
Monitors and analyzes monthly operating results against budget and recommends changes to improve company systems and the operating performance of individual departments.
Coordinates with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required by the position and the school.
The Senior Accountant does not supervise any other employees at NEIA.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
5-10 years of related accounting and/or finance experience required.
Working knowledge of Google Drive, MS Word, and Excel required.
Experience working with Quickbooks and Blackbaud NXT software preferred.
Experience working in an educational setting is a plus.
CPA a plus.
Ability to work with professionalism, independent discretion, sound judgment, equity, honesty, and personal accountability at all times.
Proficient knowledge of cost accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices.
Proficient with financial reporting requirements.
Ability to analyze information and processes in an effort to improve and/or redesign business efficiencies.

Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail.
