The Senior Tax Accountant is a member of the University's Tax Department and participates in overall tax compliance including Forms 990, 990-T, 1120, sales tax reporting and unclaimed property efforts.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Tax, responsibilities include:
Collects and analyzes financial or operational information and preparing supporting work papers for a series of Forms 990.
Responsible for knowing all tax filing deadlines and for ensuring that the tax team meets these deadlines for multiple tax returns.
Plays a significant role in the analyses and tracking of more complex financial instruments in relation to the Form 990-T, and in the preparation of and analysis of other Form 990-T workpapers.
Assists with sales tax filings which require strong understanding of the relevant state laws associated with sales tax matters.
Assists the Associate Director, State and Local Tax in performing various duties associated with unclaimed property filings.
Assists the Executive Director, Tax in University consulting matters associated with central administrative and academic departments.
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Bachelorâ€™s degree and/or its equivalent, preferably in Accounting or Finance, with a minimum of three to five years related experience required.
Experience in Public Accounting, Tax, or Non-profit Finance preferred.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), along with tracker software experience required.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills and a high level of attention to detail, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of University administrators required.
Demonstrated ability to operate successfully in a complex organization, to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment and ability to meet deadlines is required.
Strong technical skills in financial analysis, reporting and accounting, along with demonstrated analytical skills to examine processing problems and develop reasonable and practical solutions, required.
Must have a deep understanding of tax laws related to the Universityâ€™s various tax compliance filings.
Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
