The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solution providersstriving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them. Working closely with campus financial management, the UCI Controller's Office is a trusted strategic partner divided into three core teams: Accounting & Fiscal Services, Procurement Services, and Financial Services. The Accounting & Fiscal Services team ensures the integrity of UCI's financial reporting, enables effective and efficient campus financial processes and controls, manages contracts and grants funding at the post-award stage, and champions compliance with policies, laws, and regulations. The Procurement Services team leads through best practices in the acquisition of quality goods and services by implementing processes and procedures that deliver high quality expertise, significant value, and excellent customer service. Finally, the Financial Services team provides support and resources to campus in the areas of billing, collections, payments, disbursements, loan administration, and student tax information. In all these areas, the Controller's Office is always dedicated to providing effective and efficient customer service in support of UCI's mission and goals.
Uses professional accounting concepts. Completes accounting assignments that are of moderate scope where analysis of data requires a review of a variety of factors and multiple sources. Exercises judgment within defined accounting procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Has contact with internal and external resources on a regular basis. Applies policies and procedures to resolve a variety of accounting issues.
2-5 years' accounting related experience or equivalent combination of experience and education
Associate degree in related area or Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of accounting function and assignments.
Ability to apply more advanced accounting concepts to complete work assignments.
Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing.
Working knowledge of financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Working knowledge of common desktop / web applications.
Knowledge of analytical procedures used in accounting projects of moderate scope.
Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheet and proven experience in complex spreadsheet development.
Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, e.g., GAAP, GASB and SAS.
Skills to assign priorities in order to complete work in a timely manner under tight deadlines and when there are changes in workload and/assignments.
Master of Business administration (MBA) degree in Accounting.
California licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Professional certification preferred.
Sound knowledge of UC policies and procedures. Experience working in a regulated environment with limited resources. Working knowledge of UCI financial systems, UCOP financial systems and sub-systems.
Special Conditions Required:
Must have a valid CA driver's license and participate in DMV Pull Notice Program.
May be required to work outside of regularly scheduled shift.
