General Description of the Job Class
This position is responsible for understanding and analyzing Duke Primary Care's financial statements with specific responsibility for oversight of the detailed monthly close, forecast and budget processes. The position will understand the many facets of the operations in order to effectively analyze the numbers to facilitate overall supervision of financial analysts within the department.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Detailed understanding of the actual financial performance and reporting with comparison to published forecasts and budgets as required. To include detailed knowledge of related systems including SAP, EPSI, StrataJazz, and Oracle Smartview.
Identify and implement as appropriate all opportunities to enhance efficiency through automation and process improvements.
Takes initiative and utilizes critical thinking and decision making to develop solutions for complex issues.
Supervise the Financial Analyst team including coordination and assistance in development training and onboarding as required.
Coordination of adhoc analysis and reporting as required.
Provide full project level support in the development of financial analysis related to programs, services, patient populations and clinical practices.
Provide timely financial analysis/review for DPC leadership in support of operational decision-making.
Highlight any unusual transactions through use of effective trend analysis and financial modelling.
Oversight of the monthly close process and reporting to include variance analysis and written summary for leadership. Understand underlying transactions on income statement and investigate areas for improvement.
Project manage the DPC and DHW operational forecast and budget processes in conjunction with Ambulatory Finance leadership and in line with the published FP&A calendar and targets.
Assist with the development of presentations as needed including to the Network Operations and PMD meeting and other leadership meetings as required.
Attend Duke Primary Care Labor Management Committee as finance representative.
Support broader Ambulatory Finance initiatives as required.
Develop strong working relationships with the operational team at all levels to ensure latest information in all financial reviews and reporting.
Leverage operational knowledge as issues arise to ensure timely resolution including effective communication and process documentation reviews as needed.
Continuously review all processes to ensure most efficient use of available tools and to maximize staff effort.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Experience: Zoom, WebEx, Teams, Tableau, Power Pivot.
Position will foster close working relations with operational leaders through strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, professionalism, a detailed knowledge of the finance product and understanding of the core business drivers.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Business or Accounting or related business field.
This position requires five years or more of experience in financial accounting and reporting.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
MBA, MHA or Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Generally accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Distinguishing Characteristics of this Level
This position will be required to work on simultaneous projects with minimal supervision from Finance leadership.
Position will work closely on numerous projects with Financial Analysts, other DUHS Finance Managers, Corporate Finance, and General Accounting.
Position will work closely with operational leaders on several projects; therefore, professionalism and knowledge of business are important at a high level.
Position is also responsible for preparing documentation; therefore, good written communication skills are important.
