ABOUT THE POSITION: Senior Accountants are allocated to the Financial and Accounting Services Division and are responsible for planning, directing, administering, and participating in the daily operations of a variety of accounting functions for LACERA. Incumbents are assigned to either the General Accounting or Investment Accounting Section and have full supervisory responsibility over a unit of professional accountants performing reporting and compliance, disbursements, reconciliations, public market, or direct investment accounting. Senior Accountants are expected to exercise independent judgement on diverse and specialized accounting functions and have significant accountability and ongoing decision-making responsibilities associated with the areas under their purview. Senior Accountants are also responsible for completing special projects and reports; participating in the development of policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with internal control guidelines and best practices; acting as liaison with outside auditors or others external consultants; and under direction of an Accounting Officer, providing an important supporting role in the management of the Division.
The current vacancy is assigned to the Disbursements Unit and is responsible for providing direct supervision to a unit of five (5) staff performing professional and technical accounting work, including processing daily vendor and member payments, preparing and sending reimbursable cost letters, collecting revenue from employers, administering the company wide corporate credit card program, processing and paying all travel reimbursement claims, and preparing and filing member payroll tax documents with the appropriate taxing authorities.
Vacancy Information: The current vacancy is in the Disbursements Unit; however, the resulting eligible register will be used to fill both current and future vacancies throughout the Financial Accounting Services Division.
Work Schedule: This full-time position is required to work a 5/40 schedule (e.g. an eight (8) hour day, Monday through Friday).
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: Completion of accounting courses at an accredited college equivalent to 21 semester units or 32 quarter units including at least two courses in advanced subjects such as cost accounting, governmental accounting, or auditing -AND- Two years of professional accounting or auditing experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Accountant-Auditor*, or Accountant, LACERA** or higher.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS II - LIGHT: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and occasional bending, walking, stooping or squatting. Incumbents sit for extended periods of time. Work is performed in an office environment in a controlled climate. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION: *Los Angeles County's class of Accountant-Auditor is defined as assisting in conducting management, performance, financial, and compliance audits and other studies of County departments and contract providers. **Accountant, LACERA is defined as journey-level professional accounting and auditing work under general supervision.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or Finance.
An active licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the California Board of Accountancy.
Demonstrated professional accounting experience at a public sector organization or professional fund accounting experience at a custodial bank or investment manager.
Demonstrated experience as a lead to a team of professional accountants or as a lead over large accounting projects, including planning and managing workflows, setting deadlines, training, reviewing work, and providing constructive feedback to others.
Demonstrated experience acting as a liaison between the organization and outside auditors and/or other external consultants, including reviewing and coordinating requests, gathering necessary documentation, and providing answers and explanations to questions.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains software.

Additional Salary Information: Certification Bonus: Any permanent, full-time employee working in this classification possessing a valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the California Board of Accountancy is entitled to a Certification Bonus equal to two (2) salary schedules (approximately 5.5%) as provided by the Los Angeles County Step Pay Plan.
