The Principal Accountant, External Financial Reporting is primarily responsible for the support and participation in the University's annual financial statements for external audit, ad hoc financial reporting projects as well as internal controls projects that are part of the Office of the University Controller's initiatives. This includes the preparation and documentation of certain journal entries, core processes, and work papers during the year-end audit; preparation, documentation and review of financial statement note disclosures;, as well as analyzing and adjusting university-wide financial data, as needed.
In addition, the Principal Accountant, External Financial Reporting is responsible for the execution and project management related to the annual audits of WFIU-FM (a public radio station operated by Indiana University) and WTIU-TV (a public television station operated by Radio and Television Services Department of Indiana University) (i.e. collectively Radio/TV audits) and related Corporate Public Broadcast filings. This position is responsible for the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and GAAP compliance of the Radio/TV financial reporting outputs as they relate to the audit. This position is expected to be the subject matter expert in the Radio/TV audit(s) including the annual closing process and entries related to year-end, preparation of the related financial statements, drafting management's discussion and analysis (MD&A) and the reviewing the related notes to the financial statements. This position will also provide primary support for the data extract and fielding data related questions pertaining to the annual audited financial statements.
This position prepares process documentation for core Radio/TV journal entries, critical processes inclusive of the financial reporting process, and treatment of ad hoc accounting transactions, exceptions, and their related implications to the financial statements. This position will develop process documentation for each annual year-end journal entry inclusive of the purpose, related GAAP guidance, and detail process narratives to support the audit. Works with the Financial Reporting Manager and University Chart of Accounts on University financial reporting impacts, allocations, and chart changes that impact Radio/TV.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field and eight years of related experience.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
