East Kentucky Power Cooperative, Inc. has an immediate opening for a General Ledger and Financial Reporting Accountant at our Winchester, Kentucky headquarters. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, the ability to analyze complex financial data, explain account variances, and ensure the proper, accurate, and timely completion of various financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), various regulatory agencies (RUS, FERC, Kentucky Public Service Commission), and East Kentucky Power Cooperative.
Maintains the General Ledger Chart of Accounts, including the PeopleSoft tree structure used for combination editing, report writing and account roll-up.
Ensures that proper controls are in place over financial processes and results.
Creates, reviews, and posts monthly journal entries ensuring their accuracy and compliance with GAAP as well as the Rural Development Utilities Electric Program (RUS).
Prepares the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and the policies or procedures prescribed or permitted by the Kentucky Public Service Commission and RUS.
Prepares and/or compiles RUS Form 12 and the FERC Form 1.
Prepares monthly management reports and flux analysis.
Prepares IRS Form 990.
Assists with research and documentation of technical accounting issues.
Compiles other financial data for internal and external use as needed.
Creates and maintains allocations as needed.
Prepares general ledger account reconciliations.
Assists in the annual audit process by providing analysis, supporting schedules, or documentation as needed.
Plans and prioritizes work assignments in order to meet monthly close deadlines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Certifications / Licenses:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area required. Advanced degree or CPA preferred.
Five (5) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of FERC and RUS accounting requirements preferred.
Knowledge of Excel and PeopleSoft applications.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Must use discretion when dealing with sensitive accounting documents.

Primarily an inside position with usual office conditions with regular lifting up to twenty (20) pounds and occasional climbing of stepladders.
May require working outside normal hours.
