This position will supervise the Capital Project Accounting team within IPF Support Services. The Capital Project Accounting team is responsible for handling the accounting and administrative support for construction project accounts on campus, including all projects with budgets of $250K or more. The position entails acting as fiscal officer for construction accounts, reporting to granting agencies for grant-funded projects, ensuring that the accounting and administrative functions are handled accurately and in a timely way, including gathering funding information, opening and maintaining accounts during the life of a project, monitoring projects with multiple funding sources and making adjustments as needed; troubleshooting for construction projects, including resolving overdrafts and budget discrepancies, establishing assets for capitalized projects; and preparing year-end reports for the Controller's Office. This position will also collaborate with business units, customers, and stakeholders to conduct business process analysis and continuous improvement initiatives; have the ability to translate business requirements into an action plan to deliver reporting solutions; provide functional technical knowledge of databases and business operations to suggest best practice information gathering to accomplish the task; develop strategic and tactical operational performance measures and metrics using multiple data sources; present and exchange information clearly, accurately, and appropriately; will supervise CPA team members with workload balance, skillset enrichment, cross functional training. This position is responsible for the growth, engagement and goal setting for the employees of the department. This includes career development, assistance with decision making, employee counseling, problem resolution, proper documentation of critical decisions, and linking tactical goals to the overall mission and strategic goals of the University and IPF. Other key responsibilities are assuring compliance with University and Government guidelines and regulations and assists with the process of getting product/services to personnel as needed to keep MSU running. Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a field related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience in a setting which corresponds to the department of employment and including accounting, finance, budget development statistical methods, and application of information systems and technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master's in Business Administration (MBA); 3+ years of supervisory experience; experience with MSU accounting/business policies and procedures, including experience with grants; certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) ; experience in facilities operations; strong organizational and data analysis skills; experience with EBS, FAMIS (work management software), and Unifier (project management and workflow system); excellent communication skills, both oral and written; ability to work independently and with individuals and teams at all levels in the organization; strong ability to multi-task yet pay attention to detail. A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.
