The Sr. Gift and Investment Accountant will be responsible for recording the day-to-day accounting transactions and monthly reconciliations for gifts, pledges, investments and endowments. The position will serve as a direct contact between the Office of Finance and Administration, and Office of Advancement. The position will assist in areas of treasury management, and other areas of accounting as directed by the Director of Financial Reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review and reconcile gifts and pledges from donors into the general ledger
Record monthly investment account activity
Work with the Director of Financial Reporting to account for the University’s funds and endowments, and unitize investment activity among the funds
Reconcile income statement and balance sheet accounts pertaining to gifts, pledges, investments and contribution revenue
Work in collaboration with University Advancement for the accurate recording of gift agreements. Provide a monthly review, reconciliation and report of all gifts, contributions and pledges
Process all debt-related transactions
Prepare endowment market values and reconciliations for review by the Director of Financial Reporting
Calculate the spend rate for endowments after the rate has been approved by the Board of Trustees
Provide endowment information necessary for the completion of financial reports prepared by the CFO
Work in conjunction with Budget Managers to release endowment and gift net assets from restriction
Prepare monthly roll forward schedules of book value and fair market value for all investments
Assist with the preparation and coordination of the University’s annual audit and monthly closing process.
Reconcile all accounts in areas of responsibility
Prepare monthly cash management analysis and monitor daily cash balance
Other duties as assigned
Prepare the NACUBO – Commonfund Study of Endowments on an annual basis
Recommend financial policies and procedures and assist in the implementation of those approved
Recommend, develop and implement automated systems, procedures and controls
Respond to all e-mails and/or telephone inquiries in timely manner
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Ability to use computer for extended periods of time.
Position may require additional hours to be worked during fiscal year end annual audit and/or during month end.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
Strong analytical and reporting skills.
Experience with Banner/Ellucian.
Not-for-profit and gift/fund accounting experience.
