What you’ll be doing...
The Global Payroll Compliance and Projects team is responsible for supporting and maintaining an effective overall controls environment for Global Payroll ensuring the systems, practices, and processes are compliant with country, federal, state and local laws as well as Verizon Policy. The team is also responsible for leading compliance and strategic payroll projects, and supporting strategic employee transfers, acquisitions, and divestitures. This position will work independently to conduct evaluations, audits and reviews of processes, practices, and policies in each of the Global Payroll functions to identify opportunities for 1) validating and enforcing compliance; 2) strengthening internal controls; 3) streamlining processes; 4) developing, interpreting, and enhancing policies and 5) requirements gathering, testing and implementation.
Execute initiatives to analyze and enhance controls across Global Payroll processes, practices and systems.
Work independently to develop and perform audit procedures, identify risks and opportunities, develop plans to remediate deficiencies and monitor performance against those actions.
Conduct risk assessment and develop comprehensive plans to perform process audits and reviews to evaluate current business practices, system processes, and internal control structures adhere to wage and pay practices, federal, state, and local taxation and Verizon policies.
Collaborate with Payroll Management and various stakeholders (e.g., Human Resources, Benefits, Legal, IT, Labor, etc.) to implement any necessary changes to enforce compliance.
Act as a liaison between Global Payroll Controls team, Transactional Auditors, Internal and External Audit, including SOX.
Understand audit observations, compensating controls and mitigating circumstances.
Work with process owners to establish action plans to address issues.
Follow up to ensure completion of all actions and report appropriate metrics to management including development of training curriculum to support and enforce compliance.
Identify and evaluate upcoming changes to federal, state and local regulations, laws and/or Verizon policies.
Develop implementation plans including impacts to Global Payroll processes or system functionality.
Interpret and enforce Verizon policies, business practices, internal controls, and compliance.
Cooperatively interact with various Global Payroll teams, internal or external stakeholders to perform checks and achieve goals to track and enforce compliance.
Perform analysis to drive process improvements and behavior changes to and improve the control environment.
Develop reporting and metrics and analyze results to ensure compliance for Global Payroll.
Receive, analyze, monitor and manage requests for strategic transfers from the various business leaders and/or internal stakeholders (e.g., FP&A/HRBP).
Test, validate, reconcile and confirm all pay data elements after each strategic transfer and assist employees with any post transfer issues (e.g. IT system access, benefits, payroll and accounts payable).
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Four or more years of relevant work experience.
Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
BA/ BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any other related discipline.
Project Management certification and/ or other financial certification, such as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
Knowledge of accounting systems and applications including PeopleSoft and time reporting systems.
Competency and knowledge of country, federal, state and local tax requirements as well as wage and pay practices.
Strong working experience creating complex queries and reporting tools .
Project management experience; proven ability to continuously move forward with multiple projects (i.e., compliance audits).
Possess competency and experience in audit, controls, and payroll practices, policies and procedures.
Results-oriented, strong sense of urgency, proactive and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and across organizational lines.
Experience working in a team environment and ability to work with numerous different groups throughout complex organization.
Strong organizational, time management and organizational skills.
Ability to multi-task, support day-to-day activities while concurrently managing multiple projects or inquiries, show flexibility, adapts easily to change.
Interpersonal skills; written communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively to executive level in the organization.
Experience in research, analysis, governance and ability to execute continuous improvement initiatives.
