We are currently seeking an intelligent, analytical, energetic individual to join our finance team. The ideal candidate is someone with corporate accounting experience, who is motivated, has initiative and a desire to improve existing work flows.
Prepare month-end and quarter-end journal entries and reconciliations related to two insurance contracts with an external system of record, and ensure items are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
Coordinate and make premium payments to state and municipalities, gather and submit support for municipality payments to be recorded in ledger, and gather and deliver annual request list data
Maintain calculation and reporting model to calculate and book premium tax estimate, reconcile and explain differences between model and GL balances
Back-up month-end duties assigned to other Senior Accountants and assist on a variety of projects to automate various functions within the Finance Department.?
Reporting & Analysis:
Assist with monthly and quarterly trend analysis and budget to actual variance explanations
Assist with design, testing and implementation of system automated premium tax accrual
Work with system’s team to optimize reporting out of external data sources
Conform with and abide by all regulatory guidance and internal policies & procedures, including 100% compliance with Model Audit Rule (MAR) controls.
Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.
Contribute to department and organization special projects as assigned.
BS/BA degree in accounting or finance
3+ years work experience in an accounting role
Understand accounting fundamentals and financial statements
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and within a team and take on new tasks as needed
Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook or similar programs.
Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of Statutory accounting principles a plus
