General Summary The Senior Accountant, Financial Services is responsible for reviewing, reporting, analyzing, and interpreting complex accounting information and for monitoring compliance with University policy and GAAP. This position serves as a liaison to various Colleges and University business units. This position utilizes the BlueSky Oracle Cloud ERP system modules, reporting, and budget controls to consult and advise university leaders on business processes and budget management. The Senior Accountant acts as an interpreter between the business operating units and financial affairs departments, including accounts payable, budget, financial, and restricted accounting.
It is imperative that the Senior Accountant, Financial Services have strong communication skills to translate the needs of the business unit into the transactions required by accounting standards. Participates in a wide range of process improvement-related tasks, including but not limited to: business process redesign, ERP troubleshooting, and update testing, University policy revision, etc. This position has frequent contact with budget owners, department managers, Deans, and VPs across the University. Also oversees the work of staff accountants and student assistants, as applicable. This position participates in the overall financial team effort to provide quality service to all university constituencies.
This is a Hybrid position (primarily remote, though an in-office presence might be required from time to time). Responsibilities & Duties
Financial Services: Provides direct financial services functionality for anywhere from four to eight divisions. This will include being the liaison and direct contact for these areas, providing a high level of financial service to stakeholders within these areas. Works with Cost Center Owners and Department Managers on tasks including, but not limited to: resolving issues related to financial transactions, reporting, and budgeting; training individuals on policy, procedure, and systems; interpreting and communicating relevant University policies and procedures; leading efforts for process improvement.
Supervision of one to three staff: Ensuring the team remains engaged, is meeting deadlines and supporting efforts related to assigned areas. Ensuring staff has the tools required to operate effectively and receive training as needed.
Cross trains and collaborates with Financial Accounting: This includes working as an extension of Financial Accounting during quarterly and fiscal year-end close, collecting transactions, and posting adjustments, to ensure all university departments are operating in compliance with GAAP and university policy. Formally cross-trains on various accounting functions with Financial Accounting, to ensure that there is appropriate overlap in ability between the two groups.
Issue identification and resolution: Works with contacts throughout the university, including stakeholders and colleagues in Financial Affairs, to identify potential issues or gaps related to topics such as business process, systems & reporting. Works with stakeholders and the appropriate Financial Affairs contact to identify resolutions for these issues.

Education & Experience
Bachelor degree in Accounting, or related business Bachelor degree.
Minimum 5 years experience in Accounting or Audit.
Oracle Cloud or other ERP Ledger experience.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
CPA or Advanced degree.
Directly supervise 1-3 staff or assistant accountants.
Serve as the primary financial liaison to up to 5 business units for a University with two main campuses with greater than $1B in net assets and 23,000 students.
Works collaboratively with management and executive-level personnel throughout the university.
