The Tax Accountant supports the process of tax return preparations and government required filings for the organization and its affiliates. This role assists in tax calculations and workpapers, handles tax payments, maintains tax records, assists in tax audits and projects as needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists with workpaper preparations for federal and state tax returns for the organization and its affiliates. This includes tax returns for both exempt organizations and for-profit organizations
Assists with property related filings, including Property Tax, Property Statement and Welfare Exemptions Claims
Assists with Sales and Use tax returns, Business Taxes, and Parking Occupancy Tax returns
Responds to notices and inquiries from various taxing authorities. Assists with tax audits
Prepares Statements of Information, Fictitious Name Permits for the organization and its affiliates
Assists with government filings including DMHC, Quarter and Annual Services Report, Report of Organizations and other surveys as requested
Reconciles G/L Accounts associated with taxes and licenses and resolve any discrepancies. Prepares/adjusts journal entries
Handles tax check requests and payments. Maintains tax files and records
Collaborates with other departments/teams on tax issues and/or provides assistance on projects as requested
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or accounting related field of study required. Master's degree preferred.
License/Certification:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Experience:
Three (3) years of working knowledge and experience in corporate tax required. Experience in a non-profit organization or healthcare industry a plus. Public accounting experience strongly preferred.
