The Office of the University Controller provides leadership and guidance for financial compliance, systems and services at Indiana University. Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Performs detailed accounting assignments requiring knowledge of accounting theory and principles.
Assists in developing and installing accounting systems, procedures, and controls to safeguard the organization's assets.
Performs a variety of accounting assignments such as the preparing, maintaining, and reconciling complex ledger accounts and related financial, regulatory, and management reports, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, depreciation statements, cash flow, repayment schedules, and regulatory reports and filings.
Provides specialized analysis for various accounting activities, including gathering, processing, analyzing, and evaluating data for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, reconciliations, and balance sheets.
Verifies accuracy and makes recommendations for corrections.
May provide guidance to lower-level accounting employees.
More specifically, a UCO staff accountant provides accounting and fiscal guidance to outline policies and procedures that staff should follow to ensure compliance and mitigate audit risk, as well as:
Performs accounting assignments requiring knowledge of and competency in accounting principles and practices to safeguard the organization's financial resources and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.
Establishes and maintains IU Accounting Standards, as well as accounting and financial reports and templates.
Submits recommendations for improved operations.
Oversees and assists with specialized accounting assignments such as the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial activity.
Actively works with departments to provide support, training services and ensure compliance.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
2 years of relevant experience.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Indiana license or Indiana license eligible upon hire.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
