The Controller reports to the CFO/COO and is responsible for the oversight, organization, and implementation of all general ledger functions and establishes and maintains proper internal control procedures. In addition, the controller oversees the payroll function and assists with various HR functions on an as-needed basis.
Essential Job Functions
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries as part of the monthly close cycle
Prepare accounts reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis
Coordinate year-end financial statement and 403(b) audit process; prepare schedules and provide support to auditors throughout the audits
Assist the CFOO with developing and monitoring the School’s budget
Maintain a schedule of fixed assets including capital improvements; calculate annual depreciation
Financial Analysis and Reporting
Prepare and distribute year-to-date expenditures and remaining annual budget to all department heads on a monthly basis
Assist the Head and CFOO with strategic financial planning for on-going and new initiatives with financial analysis and modeling
Lead the collection of data and assist the CFOO with preparation of annual budget
Attend the Finance and Audit committee meetings of the Board of Trustees and support as needed
Ensure that the operation of the Accounting Department is in compliance with State and Federal regulations, operating within all applicable accounting principles and standards in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Financial Accounting Services Board (FASB). Continually monitor and upgrade accounting procedures and systems, as appropriate, to insure the most efficient and effective methods of financial data preparation and availability
Assist with other functions of the Finance Office as needed: facilities and human resources
Assist the Head and CFOO with financial analysis and accurate modeling to produce strategic financial planning for on-going and new initiatives

Skills, Qualifications, Experience
Minimum five years management experience, with oversight of full accounting cycle, preferably in a non-profit or educational setting
BA in Accounting or Business Management;Certified Public Accountant preferred
Proficient use of accounting, spreadsheet, database and word processing software. Knowledge of QuickBooks is a plus.
Familiarity with ADP payroll processing strongly preferred
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
Detail-oriented, flexible and organized worker with initiative and ability to work independently and adjust priorities to meet changing deadlines
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Familiarity with employment law and various HR functions is a plus
