We are seeking an Accountant to join our team!
Working collaboratively with and reporting directly to the Director of Accounting and Finance/Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day transactional accounting for Castilleja School. This is a key position and the person will be an integral part of the Business Office team as well as work closely with Advancement and Admission. This position is responsible for processing a high volume of transactions coming from multiple areas of the organization. The position requires effective organizational and time-management skills, and a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, critical thinking, and confidentiality while meeting time-sensitive deadlines. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt position.
Prepare daily bank deposits and record in Accounting System
Process credit card and electronic payments
Enter and post cash receipts, apply to open invoices
Research bank deposit corrections and/or adjustments
Answer accounts receivable phone inquiries and follow up in a timely manner
Review and verify invoices and check requests
Sort, code and match invoices
Enter invoice data into the account system
Track expenses and process regular expense reports
Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments
Prepare and perform check runs
Post transactions to journals, ledgers and other records
Reconcile accounts payable transactions
Prepare analysis of accounts
Monitor accounts to ensure payments are up to date
Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues
Maintain vendor files
Correspond with vendors and respond to inquiries
Maintain A/P files
Prepare 1099s annually
Work with the Admissions Office to insure accounts receivable balances reflect enrollment contracts and financial aid agreements.
Work with families to coordinate payment solutions.
Process and record all payments received directly from families
Generate journal entries to reflect the revenue and accounts receivable balances in the general ledger.
Manage all aging accounts over 30 days and follow up with customers to collect on past due accounts.
Records and deposits funds received by the Advancement Department
Reconciles monthly between the Business Office and Advancement
Records pledge payments as received and maintains Business Office records of pledge payments
Produce monthly budget reports
Disburse monthly statements and reconcile school credit cards
Assist with month end closings
Prepare journal entries
Reconcile bank accounts
Provide support documentation for audits

Required Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree, preferably in business or accounting.
Three years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or school setting
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite
Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
