The MIT Department of Chemical Engineering seeks a senior financial coordinator to work with the senior financial officer for research administration on managing and performing comprehensive financial management for a portfolio of sponsored research activities. This will include pre- and post-award administration, ensuring compliance with MIT policies and sponsor requirements, and advising principal investigators (PIs) on matters related to sponsored research accounts.
Provide cradle-to-grave sponsored research administration support
Prepare and submit research proposals/contracts, including assisting PIs with budgets and administrative content of proposals
Prepare standard/nonstandard reports and forecasting
Participate in pre-award administration, including reviewing solicitations and determining necessary components, organizing PI proposals, and managing application renewals and submissions
Participate in the sponsored project closeout process, including submitting final reports and certificates
Ensure assigned portfolios are compliant with MIT research administration policies
Monitor all aspects of research financial management of assigned portfolio, including overseeing cost-sharing, under-recovery, overruns, etc.
Recommend policy changes and new initiatives and develop improvements/innovations to enhance performance
Assist with the preparation of larger scale financial reports
Review and ensure the timely processing and submission of a variety of information related to sponsored activity
Other duties as assigned
Three years of financial management experience, including the administration of sponsored research programs in a university setting
Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handle deadlines and stressful situations, and multitask
Attention to detail
Knowledge of federal guidelines
Flexibility in adjusting to new technologies related to grant and sponsored contract management
Experience with Microsoft Excel
Experience with Kuali Coeus, SAP, Cognos, BrioQuery, and NIMBUS
